Left Handed Guitar Lessons – Not That Hard To Find

It’s only logical that you’d want left handed guitar lessons. After all, you do everything else with your left hand. And so many of the guitar’s greatest practitioners have been left handed. From Jimi Hendrix to Tony Iommi, left handed players have occupied some of the biggest guitar spots in music. But that doesn’t mean that things are always easy for the left hander.

While there are certainly left handed guitars on offer, limited runs mean that the range is usually smaller and the guitars are often more expensive. Hendrix even had to restring a right handed stratocaster upside down to find an instrument. And when it comes to instructional materials, things can initially seem pretty daunting. There’s not so much of a difference between left handed guitar lessons and righ handed guitar lessons. both require a lot of practice and coordination. It is almost so similar that it is advisable to just stick with the right handed playing method even if you are a soutpaw simply for the reason that it is much easier to attain lessons, and you do in the end need both hands to play the guitar. The chord diagrams in standard books never quite correspond to what you’re doing. Scale diagrams feel like they’re the wrong way round. Even on instructional DVDs, you feel like you need a mirror to make sense of what’s going on up on the screen.

Why not just play the guitar the same way? The abilities of your left hand to choose the notes could come in handy. Of course, there’s no reason why you can’t use instructional materials aimed at the right hander. Something like Guthrie Govan’s Creative Guitar series is inspiring and informative no matter what hand you use to play it. It isn’t really set to be just that though. There are left handed guitar lessons out there. Many of the major publishers have put out work specifically aimed at left handed guitarists. You just have to know where to look. Hal Leonard has been particularly good in that regard. The famous Hal Leonard Guitar Method is available in a left handed edition otherwise identical to the right handed edition. There’s also the Left Handed Guitar Book/CD, which was written specifically for southpaw guitarists, and so deals with any particular problems they might encounter. The Picture Chord Encyclopedia for Left Handed Guitarists, meanwhile, does away with all those awful moments when you’re tempted to turn other chord books upside down to try and get something close to the correct angle. To draw inspiration from a few left handed greats, why not get hold of music for work by the likes of Paul McCartney, Hendrix and Kurt Cobain? Or, if more technically demanding metal is your preference, why not go for an Avenged Sevenfold tab book, since guitarist Zacky Vengeance is another famous lefty. So, if you’re looking for left handed guitar lessons, there’s certainly enough stuff out there to keep you going. All you’ve got to do is practise.

Date Night at Home – Romantic Movies That Will Make You Laugh

Is romance in your relationship always so serious? How is that working out for you and your husband? Maybe it’s time to try humor.

Of course, my husband would rather watch paint dry than sit through a seriously romantic movie like The Notebook or Somersby. He’s romantic, but none of that “mushy” and “bittersweet” stuff for him. A few belly laughs mixed in with some tender lovey-dovey moments is what he’s all about.

Our date nights usually involve Ben Stiller, Bill Murray, Adam Sandler, Owen Wilson, Matt Dillon, or Jim Carrey. Those men don’t know this, but they’re a huge part of what makes our marriage such a joy. The fact that our date nights consist of a fun movie instead of a forced moment means that my husband is happy and relaxed; two very good things for romance.

If your husband is like mine, he’s feeling the same need for romance with a healthy dose of belly laughs. These are some of our favorite fun movies.

The Princess Bride (1987): At the start of the movie, Grandpa is reading the story of The Princess Bride to his grandson, who is appalled when he thinks the book is all about kissing, since that’s how the story starts. If your husband is also appalled to watch a romantic movie all about kissing, he’s in for a pleasant surprise; just like the grandson. We’re talking Pirates, sword fighting, battles, castles, an evil Prince, and a beautiful Princess, all wrapped up in a very funny story, full of grown up humor, which will have you hooked on this romantic comedy forever more.

Groundhog Day (1993): This movie is not only funny, it’s a look into human potential for love and living life through the repetition of one, dreary Groundhog Day… over and over and over… until a miserably cryptic weatherman, played by Bill Murray, can get it right. Through the process, he tries to figure out how to win the love of the woman who, well, starts out really not liking him in the least. The movie is a classic and one that you’ll want to watch over and over and over and over…

Wedding Crashers (2005): Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are at their hilarious best in this movie. They are two divorce mediators all week and ‘wedding crashers’ on the weekend. They don’t just sneak into weddings to meet women, they make themselves part of the party. They dance, get in the pictures, and make up stories about who they know… and everyone believes them. Eventually, you know there has to be a love entanglement or two. There are some love and life lessons to learn. You’ll enjoy this light-hearted pick.

The Wedding Singer (1998): This is a great romp through the 80’s. The settings, the songs, the clothes, and the bad wedding music, are all very nostalgic and fun. Robbie, the wedding singer, goes through some rough spots when his fiance drops him. Julia, the waitress, is going to marry a man who doesn’t deserve her. Robbie and Julia team up as good friends and, well, the right thing happens for everyone. You’ll enjoy Adam Sandler’s depiction of Robbie; right down to the hair style! And, ladies, you’ll get a tear or two when Robbie sings ‘Grow Old With You’. Relax, laugh, and cuddle. This is a winner.

Fun With Dick and Jane (2005): Dick and Jane’s ‘good life’ comes to an abrupt halt when their plans for a comfortable future crumble with the collapse of the company stock, pension fund, and Dick’s job. Dick, as a middle manager, gets hung out to dry and blamed for the stock collapse. Humiliated, Dick and Jane snap and start doing whatever they can to hang on, which includes going on a wildly funny blue-collar crime spree. But, things change and they end up getting retribution for their co-workers and revenge on the person who really caused the collapse. Jim Carrey is hilariously funny, but with a very gentle heart. You’ll be cheering the victors at the end.

Love Actually (2003): This movie portrays eight stories of love in its many forms. The stories show romantic love, as well as love of a father for his son, love between siblings, and love of friendship. It’s a beautiful story that shows that Love Actually is all around. These stories are funny on so many levels, but also deeply touching. Get your hanky ready and snuggle up.

Have You Ever Need a Discrete Emergency Plumber?

There was a scene of a plumbing emergency if there ever was one. Jim Carrey and Daniels are both after the same girl. Before his date with her Carrey a bottle of laxative into Daniel’s drink and as he is on his way to meet her at her house he fills his stomach and the rest of his body start to rumble.

As she lets him into her home she tells him she is almost ready and to make himself comfortable. By this point Daniels is ready to blow up. He finds a bathroom and rushes to the toilet. He lowers his pants and has the relief of a life time. His date hears him in the bathroom and tells him she hopes he is not using the toilet because it is broken. I told you it was an emergency if there ever was one in the plumbing world.

I had a plumbing emergency one time. I attempted to repair a leading sink faucet in the bathroom at the house I was living in. I figured it had to do with the washer. I knew I probably had to turn off the water supply before I started working. But I could not find the shut off valve. I looked under the sink, in the yard and around the house… No shut off valve. I did not want to shut off the main water main because if I did the water company would have to come out and turn it back on.

So in my genius I decided that I could probably fix the faucet without turning off the water supply. I went back in and took a wrench and started turning the ball bearing on the faucet handle. It did not give at first. But with more pressure I felt it loosen. I thought great I will have this fixed in no time. I turned it a few more times and felt it give.

Suddenly the fixture exploded and a fountain of cold water drenched me. The water was shooting off the ceiling and showering me with cold water. I scrambled for the part that blew off. I found it by the toilet. With the water raining down on me I shoved the part back in and started to turn it back in.

I found it again on the floor and with determination I shoved it back into the faucet and was able to twist and tighten it with my wrench back into place. I caught my breath and called a plumber.

Copyright Problems May Slow Digital Book Libraries

Google, the internet search giant, has been found guilty of infringing French copyright law by a court in Paris. French publishing house, La Martiniere, was awarded the sum of 300,000 Euros (equivalent to $ 430,000). Google must also pay an additional 10,000 Euros ($ 14,000) each day until the book extracts are withdrawn from Google’s database. The action was initiated by the French Publishers’ Association, as author’s group and La Martiniere.

Google won’t be too concerned about the size of the settlement – but the ruling may have a bearing on Google’s project to scan as much of the world’s books as possible and to make these available online. At the moment, Google is in the process of scanning as many books as it can. Books no longer covered by copyright law are made available in their entirety. Others covered by copyright may either have small sections made available online or have the entire book made available under an agreed licensing scheme.

Google’s project to establish a worldwide digital library has seen it in court before. In 2001, a class action was filed by the Authors Guild, the Association of American Publishers and a number of individual publishers and authors who alleged that Google had breached copyright law by failing to seek the copyright holder’s permission in all instances prior to scanning books from university libraries.

Google claimed that it was complying with the principle of “fair use” as books which were scanned without the copyright holder’s permission had only short snippets made available.

A deal was agreed in October of 2008. Google established a fund of $ 125m to compensate authors whose work was made available online. However, the deal was only applicable in North America and there were still problems with books which, whilst perhaps out of copyright in the U. S., were still covered by copyright law in other countries.

As well as opposition from Europe, including both the German and French governments, Google faces competition from Yahoo, Microsoft and Amazon – who all support the “Open Book Alliance” run by the Internet Archive. The Internet Archive is a non-profit organisation which is also in the business of scanning and digitising books. Over half a million books have been scanned and stored by the Internet Archive to date, all of which are available free online. The founder of the Internet Archive, Brewster Kahle, is concerned that Google is attempting to monopolise the library system.

Google, quite reasonably, asserts that their Google Books project will make millions of books which are currently out of print available to readers worldwide. It’s also noteworthy that out of copyright books are available to Amazon Kindle reader users direct from Amazon’s website and that there are numerous other websites where free books can be found online, without any copyright infringement. Our reading habits, along with publishing methods, will change to take advantage of the internet and digital storage media. However, in order for this to be truly successful, a legal framework to protect the interests of copyright holders and authors will require to be put in place.
