Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief is finally on DVD. This movie really has a Harry Potter vibe to it, but that is probably related to the fact that director was also the director in the first Harry Potter movie. This movie was based off the book series by Rick Riordan, which could mean there may be future movies. This movie had a doable plot, enjoyable characters, and an adventure through history with a modern element. Don’t miss out on your copy today.

The plot is about a boy named Percy that finds out that he is actually a demigod and that his best friend is a satyr and his protector. And joined with the help of Athena’s daughter, his crush, the three of them set out to find pearls that can transport them out of Hades since Percy’s mother is being held captive there. So you get to enjoy this adventure and find out whether or not he saves his mother. And by the end you get to find out who his father really is.

The characters in the movie are enjoyable. Percy comes off as the average guy, the satyr is the kind of loyal friend everyone wants, and Athena’s daughter is cute girl with a sassy attitude to match. The three of them click well together and are ones that children can like and relate to. There’s also lots of mythological creatures, so children get a Greek mythology less along with it.

Although there are fun fight sequences in the movie in many ways its like a big history lesson. The movie talks about such creatures of myth like Medusa, Zeus, and Hades. Part of learning about the myths is finding out how demigods are born. But instead of traveling back in history, they find the answer in the United States.

Easy Piano Lesson – The Basics Of All Piano Lessons

When you’re an absolute neophyte of easy piano lesson, it is always best to start with something you are familiar with or something you can become familiar with fast. How about the Middle C? You’re not sure what it is? It is the centermost key of the piano. If you know how a C key looks like, you would easily identify the Middle C since it is adjacent to the printed name of the piano manufacturer.

Once you have identified the Middle C, it will become much easier for you to know what octaves, notes, chords, scales and chord progressions mean.

As your first lesson, place your right thumb on the Middle C. This is what is called the 1st position. Note that when it comes to playing the piano, each finger on your hand correspond to a specific number. Thumb is the number one finger and the rest of the fingers are the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th fingers. for the first position, your right thumb or number one finger should rest on Middle C. On other basic piano exercises, both thumbs rest on Middle C, but for now, only your right thumb should do that.

Moving on, rest all your fingers on their positions – thumb on Middle C and the rest of your fingers resting on the succeeding white keys. Now, lightly press each key from Middle C until you reach the next C. What you just pressed are the 3 different keys of a scale, the C Major scale. Note that in this scale, white keys are the only keys used. This scale only uses white keys although all other scales combine black and white keys.

Using this scale, you can create several different chords. Chords are any set of keys on the piano or notes that are played as a group. From the C Major scale, you can form a number of different chords. Now place your number one finger on the Middle C again. Press it, skip one white key and press the E key, then skip another white key and press the G key. There you go, a C Major Chord triad. A triad just C Major is a chord that comprises of three notes. Other chords require 2 or more notes.

Another chord that may be formed using the keys of the C major scale is the F Major chord. This chord is formed with 3 notes, F-A-C. Now go ahead and play this chord.

Did you notice something? Both the C major and F major chords are comprised of chords that make up a pattern. This is called the formula of the chord.

The pattern for major chords goes like this – root key, four halftones and 3 halftones. Remember that a halftone is the least possible interval between two notes. on the piano, this is the distance between two neighboring keys.

As you progress through your lessons, you will notice that other chord patterns have their own formulas as well. Now, with the use of the formula for major chords, find the keys that comprise of the G major chord.

This particular easy piano lesson ends with a lesson on chord progression. Remember all the chords you have just been taught? Play all these chords one after another and finish it off with C Major. There, you just played your first melody.

Its A Wonderful Life Is A True Classic

Capra’s Its a Wonderful Life is without a doubt one of the all time feel-good movies. It’s not feel good in the way that, say, a cheap Lifetime movie is feel good, it’s not some phoney baloney optimism like Pay it Forward, it is real, true, and honest. It is also, without a doubt, the greatest Christmas film ever made.

Yes, yes, the nostalgic, inner child in you wants to say A Christmas Story is the greatest holiday film, or maybe How The Grinch Stole Christmas. The cynic in you chortles and says “No, Die Hard and Lethal Weapon are the best Christmas movies, LOL!” But no, sorry, this film is the greatest holiday film of all time, with Miracle on 34th Street being a distant second.

The film deals with the darker side of the holidays, the depression, the self pity, the nihilism, despair and disappointment that so few filmmakers have the courage to address. In fact, the second act begins with Jimmy Stewart, the warmest and most friendly actor in history, attempting suicide! To start from such an incredibly low point takes confidence.

It is because of this ugliness, this darkness and pessimism, that it is so heroic to see Stewart’s George Bailey overcome the odds and learn to love his life again. True optimism only counts in the face of adversity. Anyone can be positive in one of those weepy made for cable Lifetime movies where nobody ever really faces any true challenges, but Bailey faces the worst challenges of his life, and learns to face them with a sense of hope.

This film and Rocky rank as the all time great “Tears of Joy” films. If you’re not crying by the end, then sorry, but there’s probably something wrong with you, no offense. The film is simply so human, so humane, yet so honest, that it can’t help but dash any trace of negativity and pessimism you might have been feeling when it began.

The movie actually flopped on release for some reason or other. Capra was always a director you could rely on to make a lot of money for the studios, but for whatever reason, this one just didn’t grab the initial audience. Luckily, it did go on to become one of the most popular movies of all time on cable, in second runs, and on video and DVD. Still, at the time, it almost sank the director’s career.

Another interesting point: Film legend has it that Stewart was the director’s only choice for the lead, but in fact, his first choice had been the other legendary nice guy of the screen, Henry Fonda. Fonda could have turned in an incredible performance, but Stewart really plays the character of a lifetime in George Bailey.

The movie had a number of alternative endings written, and one or two of them filmed. Interestingly, the “spoof” ending shown on Saturday Night Live, with Stewart leading the entire town to Potter’s house for a good old fashioned whoopin’, isn’t far off from one of the alternative endings that was actually filmed by Capra’s cast and crew!
