Converting your Favorite Song into your iPhone Ringtone

Your favourite songs can now be played on your iPhone as ringtones. Though the process is a little complicated its nothing that an average iPhone user cannot master. The best part is that it’s all for free. That’s right, not a penny to pay for it.

If you have plenty of songs in your music library, you can easily get them converted into ringtones for your iPhone, particularly if these songs fall into the non DRM category which means that they are not under Digital Rights Management. For such songs, you can get them converted into ringtones with the help of iTunes and soon your iPhone will be playing all those lovely songs that you’ve always fancied.

Step one is to launch iTunes on your computer. This method works well for both Mac users as well as Windows PC users. Now you need to search for the song that you want to use as a ringtone. Once you’ve chosen the song, you need to listen to it, and choose the part that you’d like to hear play as a ringtone on your iPhone. Once you’ve picked your favourite part, just make a note of the start time and end time, of the part selected and then right click on the song and select the ‘Get Info’ option.

Continue the process by clicking on the ‘Options’ tab and then enter the time when the particular clip starts, for example, your favorite bit could start at 1:50, i.e. 1 minute, 50 seconds. Then, enter the end time of the ringtone, and make sure that it does not exceed 40 seconds. Once again, right click on your song and choose ‘Convert selection to AAC’. iTunes will create a duplicate of your ringtone. Retain the duplicate and delete the original.

Now you can find the duplicate on your iTunes, though you may have to use the following path Music- iTunes- iTunes Music, if you pay attention you’ll see that it as an extension of ‘m4a’ on it. Just replace that extension ‘m4a’ with ‘m4r’ which is the ringtone format for your iPhone. That’s all it takes! Double click on the ringtone which will then automatically be added to your ringtones folder in your iTunes music library by iTunes itself.

Now all you have to do is to connect your iPhone to iTunes and transfer the ringtones. Voila! Do remember to do this only with songs that do not fall under Digital Rights Managements. Otherwise, it can be an illegal activity such as piracy.
