The lead characters have been played by Kathryn Morris, Danny Pino, John Finn, Thom Barry and Jeremy Ratchford. On an average each season has had around 23 episodes with an exception of season 5 which had only 18 episodes while season 2 had the maximum number of viewers of 15.12 million.

Cold Case won IMAGE award in the category of outstanding directing in a dramatic series in 2006, won ASCAP award for the top TV series from 2004 to 2009 and it also won GLAAD media award for Outstanding Individual Episode (In a Series without a Regular Gay Character) in 2006 and it has been nominated for a number of other awards as well.
