It has been said that a when trying to pick the biggest hockey fan out of a room of hockey fans, all you have to do is throw a ball and you have a 100% chance of hitting the right guy. This is because hockey fans are well known for being passionately in love with their sport. Other sports also feature a strong fan following, it is a special connection that hockey fans have with the sport that they refer to simply as ‘the game’. One of the most unique things about the way that hockey fans express their love of the game is through something that hockey shares only with baseball, a rich and colorful tradition of sports related artwork. Particularly hockey paintings.

Hockey related art in all of its forms have long been enjoyed by fans of all ages. While it is true that some hockey related art has been used over the years form promotional purposes or to glorify a particular player or team, the majority of hockey art has always been geared toward depicting the love that the fans have for the game. Most of the greatest hockey art of the past has been the pieces which are vague and ambiguous. The pieces that often stir the greatest emotion are those which capture the feeling of the moment rather then the persona of the guy holding the stick.

Some of the most notable and beloved art related to the game of hockey came out of the 1960’s. This era often referred to as the golden age of hockey, was considered a high point for fan art. Out of the period came several notable hockey artists who created many of the most famous paintings related to the game.

Hockey artists have long been known to create not only beautiful traditional paintings, but also impressive pieces of art on non traditional surfaces as well. When talking about hockey art, speaking of its potential monetary value among collectors is not really the best interpretation of its value. In truth the best way to value hockey art is by looking at it through the eyes of a young kid who has just seen his hero score the winning goal, the middle aged man who works all week to afford a ticket to the Friday night game, or the old man who remember fondly the cheers of the crown when he took the ice as a young man and fought hard for his teams pride.

Hockey paintings are a great way keep the love and devotion that you feel for the game in your heart and in our mind even during those time when you may not be able to enjoy a game in person, time such as when you are away from your home city and cant attend a game, times such as when you are too busy with work and cant get to a TV or times such as those useless four months in the middle of the year they call Summer. During those times you can keep the joy of hockey season alive and wait patiently for the crisp bite of chilly fall air and the harsh crash of a 200 pound man hitting the boards at full speed.
