Italy

The Renaissance Movement first took birth in Florence in Italy. It was the right perspective of the artists of the 15th century that leaded to the renaissance, which means ‘rebirth’ of the art, culture, Italian civilization and architecture that faced a serious setback during the middle ages thus reviving the missing glory of the Italian art.

Filippo Brunelleschi takes the credit for having ignited the Art Renaissance Movement in Italy although he is not the most known figure attached to it. He was an architect by profession and was responsible for laying down the scientific laws of perspective based on which the Renaissance Art in Italy flowered later.

Excepting Giotto di Bondone who was an influential member of the Christian art movement in Italy during the 13th century, art from Italy had always been two dimensional.

The fact that Italian artists were able to make a notable progress in the development of art by making a good use of the laws of perspective made Renaissance Art from Italy more important. Understandably Renaissance Art was creating wonderful art in Italy that reflected nature and the world in reality.

Renaissance Art in Italy widened the area of art while art in the country at the time of ancient Rome was a mere tool of the state taking charge of religious matters under the headship of the Catholic Church. Artists concentrated more on nature and the world around them in their art, even though the onus was on religious themes at that time.

In this period anatomy became the forte of several renaissance artists in Italy and hence human form was delineated to nicety by them in their work. The statue of St. George in Italy, a masterpiece of Donatello is a specimen of renaissance art in Italy.

Art Renaissance in Italy was at its apex in the 16th century as the country witnessed the woks of some greats who flourished in that period. There were the likes of Raphael, Da Vinci and Michelangelo who were contemporaries to name a few.

Renaissance artists from Italy attained priority gradually and were always favoured by the state-heads all over the country to produce wonderful work in their respective states.

Thus the art in Italy is no longer religion-bound as churches do not control them any more in non-religious atmosphere now. Still there are a few Italian artists like Giacomo Manza of the 20th century who deal with Christian themes. The Bronze door of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican is a creation of this sculptor.

Knowing The Birth Of Grunge Music

The origins of the grunge music genre are said to actually originate from Seattle in the American Northwest. Bands from the area read like a who’s who of the grunge era. Here was Kurt Cobain and Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in chains and Pearl Jam just to name a few. These are the bands that seemed to get almost overnight success and bring grunge to the fore of the American music scene.

These bands may have been the more famous of the grunge genre but they were definitely not the first bands to discover the mix of Seventies rock and punk. The Seattle area was brimming with lots of other bands that had a great influence on the grunge music scene.

I would like to name three bands that I think had a great influence and in fact helped to produce the grunge sound as we know it now.

Tad was a massive influence on the formation of the grunge scene. Tad is held in high regard by lots of grunge fans for their heavy grinding sound. Their sound is closer to heavy metal than actual grunge and as such means that they have not really had much mainstream success.

It is such a shame that they never really got that much success on a wider scene because they play a great heavy style of music that grunge fans love.

Malfunkshun will be remembered as one of the true founder members of the grunge movement. It is a pity that Malfunkshun only ever released one album. They really are worth listening to if you want to get a true idea of what grunge is all about.

Slightly different was the band Green River whose music was a combination of punk and heavy metal but infused with tones of blues to create a very distinctive sound. Green River was the first true grunge band in the respect that they were the first to actually release a grunge record. Green River actually got their name from a serial killer of the day.

These are just three of the many smaller bands that formed what we know now to be the grunge genre. They are well worth listening to if you want to experience what true grunge is all about.

Sash Window Refurbishment Creating A Modern Look And Elegant Historical Home Feature

Sash windows reflect a time when life was slower and gracious living extended to the finishes of the house. These classic styled windows were first produced by carpenters who had great pride in their handiwork and made them to last. However these windows are so exceptional that refurbishment may seem to be the only choice if a person wishes to keep the historic design.

Many problems associated with upkeep of sliding sashes can be fixed on site as replacement of the entire frame is a rare occurrence. By upgrading an existing frame with draught-proofing and double glazing one is already improving the effectiveness of this window style and will save on heating bills. Sashes and pulleys often need replacing but this is a relatively quick and easy task which can be completed with the minimum disruption to the household. When refurbishing a person can also make use of new technology and install security latches.

This concept was invented in the seventeenth century and is still gracing many a home and building and adding a timeless elegant quality to their facades. This method of being able to leave a section of a sash window open at top and bottom allowing cooling breezes in was designed in a time when electricity and air conditioners id not exists. Certain buildings have been declared heritage sites and are under the protection of a Nation Council. No alterations or restoration work can be done on them without their approval.

The History Of Horror Movies

The evolution of horror movies is interesting and lengthy. The genre’s intention is to elicit feelings of fright and fear in viewers. The first thrillers tended to be based upon classic Gothic literature. Dracula, Frankenstein, Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde and the Phantom of the Opera are among some early releases. In 1910, a bone-chilling version of Frankenstein was released.

Studios in Hollywood began to release thrillers during the early 1920s. The 1923 release of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and the 1925 release of The Monster featured actor, Lon Chaney, Senior. He’s considered the genre’s first American movie star. Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff followed were among the other early actors from America who built successful careers on their roles in thrillers.

The genre gained widespread popularity in the early 1930s. One influential monster make-up artist and set-designer was Jack Pierce. He became famous for creating iconic monster masks and costumes.

The 1931 releases of Dracula and Frankenstein were hugely successful. A 1933 release, The Invisible Man, blended science fiction with Gothic fright. Many films from this time-period were inspired by the German expressionist films from the 1920s. These plots were designed to thrill audiences, but also incorporated more serious elements.

The advances in technology during the 1950s spurred evolutions in this genre. Two sub-categories were developed, demonic and Armageddon. The producers from that period believed those themes would be more relevant to their viewers.

Japanese studios began releasing a stream of low-budget thrillers in the 1950s. Many experts believe they were influenced by the terrible after-affects from the nuclear bombing of World War II. These films centered on over-coming threats from alien invasions and deadly mutations of people, plants, animals and insects.

During the 1960s, film-makers remained focused on monsters and ghosts, but they expanded the science fiction components. The Haunting from 1963, and Rosemary’s Baby from 1968 were examples of this trend.

Alfred Hitchcock, the well-respected British film producer, began to incorporate contemporary back-drops in his films. His prolific career included many notable films, including Rear Window (1954), Vertigo (1958) and Psycho (1960). The 1963 release, The Birds, is an early example of his thematic incorporation of nature-gone-mad.

Contemporary horror movies have evolved from a rich and diverse history. While they tend to incorporate more modern themes with more advanced special-effects, they remain focused on providing thrills and chills to audiences.

The Wisdom of Walt Disney

Right through history there have been some great people whose words remain as memorable today, as they were long ago; interestingly a number of Disney quotes sre known to be amongst all of the wisdom.

You can probably remember many of the Disney movies, and, you may even be able to quote lines from them off of the top of your head, but would it come as much of a shock to you to find that a lot of the Disney quotes are as applicable to modern day situations, as they were to the predicament that the characters in the movies found themselves in?

A Short Historical Facts About The Early Roman Empire

According to historical information, the Roman city was founded in the year 753 B.C. Nonetheless, if you hear the myths and stories, you may realize that the beginning of Rome took place during the time of Aeneas, who was goddess Venus’ son.

After Troy was defeated, Aeneas began traveling across the place. He made a stop at Carthage where he had an affair with Queen Dido. Following he left, the queen ended up committing suicide. Aeneas’ journey arrived to an end in Italy. He then got married, went on to become a king and was instrumental in founding a city.

Romulus and Remus, the twin brothers, were descendants of Aeneas. The two brothers have already been credited for establishing Rome. The brothers had been heirs of King Numitor’s kingdom, however the new leader who wrested the control of power gave orders for that brothers to be drowned.

Fortunately for that twins, there was a female wolf in the scene and she saved them and grew to become their surrogate mom. Later on, the brothers had been brought up by a shepherd.

Lastly a while later, they managed to get in touch with their grandfather, King Numitor, who utilized the might of the brothers to get back again his kingdom. However, each Romulus and Remus did not remain with their grandfather. They left after which went on to create the city of Rome around the Tiber River.

Regrettably, after some time, Romulus and Remus had an argument due to the fact Remus had left the boundaries of Rome and gone outside.

In a fit of anger, Romulus killed his brother. Right after his brother’s demise, Romulus continued to rule Rome and did so for several years. He then gave up his throne then went on to become a god named Quirinus.

Soon after Romulus, Rome had several rulers till it grew to become a Republic. This state of the city stayed on for a few centuries until finally Caesar made a decision to become a dictator.

This saw Rome plunge into several civil wars. As soon as Caesar was assassinated, August, his son, grew to become the ruler and he was accountable for uniting Rome and putting an end to each of the civil wars.

Attractive Tourist Places In Vicenza

Vicenza the capital of the Veneto region of Italy is located in the north east of Italy. This Veneto region includes Venice also. Though the architecture was completed in the Basilica in the 18th century only, its importance can be dated further back to several centuries.

The Archaeological Museum in Vicenza may not be a great tourist spot but it boasts a great collection of artefacts that belong to the regional areas and that were uncovered in recent times.

A Bit Of Knowledge About The History Of Comedy

Taking a look back in time at the movies of old we come to notice that a large bulk of them were silent movies. These were mostly in the genre of making people laugh while at the same time letting them know that good always reigns over evil in the end.

Most of the people who would go to watch films therefore would expect the movie to contain a lot of humor no matter what the subject matter was about. As time went by these comedies were slowly replaced with satires that would point fingers at different things in the community.

Despite being created in a way that points fingers at the good and the bad issues in the society, these films were still hinged on the fact that humor and wit still had the best response from the audiences. A perfect example would be the hit comedy of manners, which despite being a clear indication of how we should be well brought up in our mannerisms, there were those who were not and they could be the laughing stock of the community.

Another form of comedy that came about thereafter was made possible only due to the fact that there were other successful movies before them that they could then make fun of. These are called spoofs.

In some cases, results showed that in the end more people would prefer to go watch a classic being reincarnated in a mocking manner than a totally new comedy film.

Even it is observed that these parodies were so liked by the general audience that it crossed the limit likening in comparison to the original films. ‘Blazing saddles’, ‘Airplane’, were such movies where the original version of these movies could not even stand beside.

Also films were made based on those subjects which were socially prohibited. These comic films are known as black comedies. War, death, rape and violence although forbidden by custom or religion, had films satirically produced based on these topics.

In spite of the fact that black comedies were full of polished dialogues, humor and laughter, its audience at least begun to realize that their path of living is full of nonsense in dealing with some super sensitive matters. The black comedies that were of the highest liking are ‘War of the Roses’, ‘Keeping Mum’ and so on.

How DVDs Came About

You do know and see a lot of DVD players and we have them in almost every home. But do you know who invented it? Have you ever given a thought to what is DVD all about? Well you will find it interesting. DVDs came about because someone needed a storage devise to gather data and transport the data.

We now recollect those days when we used floppy disks and tapes for recording and storing data. It was quite painful to use these as they proved to be often corrupted or damaged easily. Besides they could store very few files of small sizes. So it was a welcome change to see the new storage medium in Compact Discs which could store bigger files and higher capacity. Besides they were stable and incorruptible too.

It makes us laugh now to think of how we all used hundreds of floppy disks and cassettes at home as well as in offices to store small amount of data and keep reusing them though not reliable. As our need for storage of data began to increase, there was no other option but to look at alternate storage mechanisms with higher capacity and stability too.

There was actually no other option for the techies but to find an immediate solution to the data storage problem and come up with some stable and doable new format addressing all the weaknesses as well as the requirements. The problem was being addressed differently by different groups until such time that everybody began to collaborate and the new DVD format was born as a solution to the data storage problem and a feasible and stable alternative.

In line with the huge demand, production facilities were setup and very soon enough stocks began to be produced flooding every retail space with CD Disks which people bought like hot cakes.

You will be surprised to know that the first time the CDs were introduced in Japanese markets before they reached the American shores and thereafter to European markets by the end of the year. Today you find them all over the world.

The Japanese company which was responsible for the invention of this DVD player was accredited and rightly provided the trigger for a far reaching growth of mobile entertainment technology.

The happiest consumers who loved this development were the parents who took driving vacations with family for they no longer had to stack loads of floppy disks. It was now very easy for them to carry their favorite movies and cartoons for the kids in the DVDs.
