Deciding Whether To Learn Acoustic Guitar Or Electric

When looking for guitar lessons beginners can handle, keep in mind that there are small but often significant differences between electric and acoustic guitars. These are what often make the two types of instruments suitable for different types of music, but they may also create a differentiation in how quickly the beginner learns certain techniques. Each instrument has elements that make some things easier and other things harder, so when you learn to play acoustic guitar, you’ll need to take these differences into account.

Almost all the differences in learning between electric guitars and acoustic stem from the ways the two instruments are constructed. The acoustic tends to be lighter, being mostly hollow with a sound hole in front to magnify and enrich the vibrations of the strings.

The electric instruments are solid and generally heavier, with electronic sound pickups to convert the string vibrations into notes coming through a speaker. But if you learn how to play acoustic guitar after comparing it to the feel of its electric counterpart, you’ll recognize a difference in how the strings and frets feel.

A guitar string on the electric instrument is often lighter than one on the acoustic, making it easier to press down. This means that your fingers aren’t likely to get as sore, at least at first, if you learn to play acoustic guitar instead. The electric neck and fret board are often narrower too, meaning you can master the movements of your fingers more easily. With both types of guitars, learning the complicated finger positions of the chords can be difficult, and your fingers really need to limber up. But you might find yourself having to stretch farther on an acoustic instrument.

There doesn’t have to be an either/or in becoming proficient in guitar playing. If you learn to play acoustic guitar, then everything you learn is transferable to the electric. Remember, though, that if you begin learning guitar on an electric and then switch to acoustic, you’ll still have to get used to the fact that the strings are a little harder to work on. But even though there are differences in the actual learning experience, once you know how to play, you’ll be able to do so on any type of guitar.

A properly tuned guitar is essential and the best way to get that is with a guitar tuner. Click here to read guitar tuner reviews on the most popular brands and models, like the Rocktron X-Tune tuner, and compare how well they perform.

As soon as you are thru the foundation stages it is time to beef up your abilities with advanced guitar lessons.

Something that ought to be learned in order to transport your skills to the next stage is flow. Flow is developed as soon as you understand the music you are playing and can truly play with emotion. This is what separates a average guitarist from somebody that will mesmerize spectators and audiences.

Obviously flow is not something that can be developed immediately. It is going to take several weeks of appropriate practice in order to incorporate it into your songs. You need to begin by understanding the overall idea of the song and add detail as you grow to be increasingly at ease with songs. What you want to do is focus on spots during the song that give you difficulty and then play the whole piece once you have mastered the full song.

What you will learn with advanced guitar lessons is to practice the song in your brain before even touching the strings with your fingers. The goal is to develop a mental clarity to the point where you can imagine what is coming subsequently and hear the full song within your head.

Choosing Between Formal And Self-Taught Guitar Lessons

You hear many claims about guitar lessons, the most prominent of them being that you can teach yourself to play in just a few easy sessions. The thought that you don’t have to pay for formal acoustic lessons yet can still become a good guitar player has prompted many people to go out, buy themselves a fairly inexpensive acoustic guitar, and then start looking for these easy lessons. But is teaching yourself really the best way to learn guitar, or will you end up lacking a few essential skills?

In the past, you might have avoided taking lessons by studying on your own from guitar lesson books similar to those used in a teaching studio. But now you can learn guitar online as well, in two formats often used in combination. Written web pages provide diagrams showing where to position your fingers and what combinations of positioning will create which chords.

But as online video technology has increased in power, written descriptions are often supplemented by videos showing you how it’s done. And sometimes the written material is eliminated altogether, with the video and its commentary constituting the entire lesson.

While it’s true that if you learn guitar online you’ll actually get to see a demonstration of how actions should be performed, which you’d never see with a book, you may still be missing something. Qualified teachers who are able to see you play can detect flaws in technique on the spot, and immediately give a demonstration to correct them. If you take formal guitar lessons, then you get the benefit of this sort of guidance, which you simply can’t get from a pre-taped or written lesson.

The personal oversight and training in formal guitar lessons may not be necessary if you just want to learn casually, and don’t plan to go much farther than your own entertainment. If, on the other hand, you are learning guitar with some professional goal in mind, then you simply can’t do without the one-on-one lessons taught by those with advanced training. Even for casual playing, you may still hope to benefit by learning professional techniques right from the start. It all depends how dedicated you are and where you want to go with your music.

A properly tuned guitar is a necessity and the best way to get that is by using a guitar tuner. Click here to read guitar tuner reviews on the most popular brands and models, like the N-Tune On Board tuner, and compare how well they perform.

This Was By Far The Most Marvelous Acoustic Guitar Player I’ve Ever Seen

Have you ever had one of those nights, where you are just sitting around, looking forward to an easy, relaxing night of watching TV, or maybe surfing the Internet, when your plans suddenly turn upside down? That’s what happened to me the other night. My friends just showed up out of nowhere, and told me we were going to the concert of a lifetime.

We were speeding down this windy mountain road in my friends VW Beetle. I didn’t think those things could go that fast. They kept playing these guitar based rock and roll songs on the radio. I guess we were warming up for something. What I had no idea.

Finally we pulled up to what looked like an abandoned furniture store. It was in a kind of industrial area, that wasn’t near any houses. The outside seemed dark, and a little bit spooky, to tell you the truth. When we walked inside I was completely amazed.

The inside was clean, and had several chairs set up that were facing a huge stage up in front. There was an area directly in front of stage with no chairs, so people could get up close to the stage. When we got there, there was still some space, so we pushed our way into the stage.

Then, all of a sudden, this band appeared out of nowhere. They appeared on this stage, that had a small amount of people mingling around the front. My friends and I pushed our way up to the front, and were lucky enough to see the lead guitar player, who was playing this really wicked acoustic guitar. He was the best guitar player I’d ever heard, either live or recorded.

Finally, after a really long jam session, they started giving out copies of their CDs. I guess they just signed this huge recording contract, and this was there way of thanking their loyal fans. It was a night I’ll never forget.
