My name is John and I am a local manager in a computer office. My staff and I are working daily on contracts related to software design. Most of them are for high end projects. The latest one we made was for an electronic surveillance program for the city. It was a year long contract and we spent lots of hours working on it. We usually have smaller projects though.

As a manager, five people are under me. They are programmers with very good backgrounds. We do specialize ourselves in projects for Windows, Linux and Mac. We are also working the weekends and the staff currently doing that shift are two part-time students. Both of them are also assigned to the evening tasks. Everyday, my programmers had to be updated on any project changes. Let’s say one of them becomes sick…. well, the others need to be fully working as soon as possible without delay.

On our last project, one of my programmer became sick. He was bed ridden for a whole 14 days. The project was near the end and we needed everything to be done quickly and rightly. That time the programmer gave us some good feedback what to do and how to do it. It was the first time such thing happened. We do have every software well coded. But then, the delivery time was short and we could not verify the whole code. My client was expecting the product and I was more than stressed. Since that experience, I learned to keep my staff well updated on the product changes.

My company has been in business since 5 years so far. We grew up slowly and gained good fame for our quick deliverance. We have regular customers. I do spend lots of time with them reviewing the specifications and a lot more. The office is located in the downtown near the business district. It is a nice working place. I love my job a lot !

A lot of industry watchers are suggesting that a sales price around about the $ 150 mark is what’s needed to move e-book readers out of the high tech gadget market and into the mainstream retail arena. The enhanced levels of competition that seem likely for next year will certainly lead to reduced prices – which could mean that the $ 150 sales price will be achieved during 2010.

E-Book Readers – The Environmental Benefits

These days, it’s probably fair to say that many of us are more environmentally conscious. We are not about to turn into a nation of eco-warriors overnight, but the most people are quite willing to make a little extra effort to be greener. And that’s fine – it is actually a broad range of small changes by a large number of people that tends to make the biggest difference. The good news is that as well as being more environmentally friendly you can save both time and money at the same time.

A recent study performed by Carnegie Melon University clearly demonstrated that shopping online has less impact on the environment than the conventional method of purchasing goods from retail outlets. The example used in the study was the purchase of a flash memory stick. It was shown that the environmental impact of the traditional retail method was 35% worse than using the internet to make an identical purchase.

A parallel study – performed by CleanTech – found that the typical carbon footprint of a conventional printed book was 7.5 kg of CO2 over its lifespan. However, this figure doubled if the customer got into their car, drove to the store, picked up their book and then drove home again instead of having it delivered by mail.

Roughly speaking, 65% of the emissions associated with traditional shopping methods are a consequence of the customer’s transport to the store and the return journey home.

Not only is shopping online better for the environment – it will save you time and you will often be able to find what you’re after at a better price. You can increase the environmental benefits even more simply by choosing the right type of product.

For example, if you choose to buy electronic books instead of the conventional printed type, you will save on paper, ink and the energy used in the printing and binding process. As a rule, electronic books are cheaper than the printed versions – plus you save on gas.
