What About Halloween

Halloween is without question a thrilling time of the year. Not only for youngsters but also for parents also. After all, who doesn’t love getting dressed up as their favorite ghoul, goblin, super hero, or bad guy, and setting off trick-or-treating or to a Halloween social gathering. Halloween is an event observed world wide and in almost every country as there are seasonal and religious associations that are popular. It has existed for almost 500 years.

There is some speculation over the beginning of Halloween(not the name) but the occasion. A number of historians link it to the Roman feast of Pomona, who was the goddess of fruits and seeds. Others believe it started as Parentalia, the “festival of the dead”. It is however, more frequently associated with the Celtic festival known as Samhain, a Gaelic event that honors the conclusion of summertime.

Of course the name “Halloween” is more generally connected with the Scottish version of “All-Hallows-Eve”, or, the evening prior to All-Hallows-Day or All Saints day. It originated in 1556, and throughout the ages All-Hallows-Eve became Halloween. Halloween is October 31st, and is observed worldwide, though not every cultures celebrate on this date. Some countries celebrate on the 2nd Tuesday in December.

Halloween has a lot of symbolism and imagery which has evolved through the years and lots of societies and movements have contributed to it. Most particularly are the Jack-o’-lantern, Dracula, ghosts, death, evil, and dark scary themes. Black and orange are Halloween’s official colors. Halloween has spawned a whole industry of costume manufacturers and each year the latest trend of popular movies and characters contributes to offerings. There’s also a number of activities that have become traditions of Halloween. Trick-or-treating has become the most preferred. Kids from coast to coast dress up and go house to house in their neighborhoods collecting candy and treats. There are Halloween functions, prank playing, games which include bobbing for apples, and attending haunted houses & graveyards.

Favorite foods at Halloween are candy or caramel apples, candy corn, popcorn, apple cider, and baked pumpkin seeds. Several other cultures have traditional foods they prepare for instance Ireland’s barmbrack that is a fruit bread.

Halloween represents the season of the harvest and the end of summer. Fall or Autumn in the northern hemisphere is when the weather turns cool and cultures harvest their crops in preparation of winter. Many people assert it is their favorite season citing cooler weather, back to school, the beginning of the American Football season, and several other reasons. All in all it is a great time and remains an important part of the calendar year.

Wonder Woman’s History

Wonder Woman is a super-hero dating back to the 1940’s when she made her debut in All Star Comics volume #8. Since then Wonder Woman has appeared pretty much exclusively in DC Comics. The character is based on, and considered a princess of the Amazon women whom through her journeys comes to spend most of her time on Earth with the humans. Her home is an island called Themyscira(up to now Paradise Island) named after the Ancient greek home of the mythological Amazon women.

The character is a heroine and possesses numerous super-human talents that appear to change in accordance with the writer or situation Wonder Woman finds herself in. Most notably she has super human strength, speed, intellectual as well as mental abilities. Furthermore she has shown the abilities to communicate with animals, perform telepathy, blow winds at amazing speeds, and sometimes even fly.

Wonder Woman has indestructible bracelets(which in many story lines can’t be removed), and the Lasso of Truth, which if lassoed by, captives are magically forced to be truthful. The Lasso is usually said to be indestructible and can also be lengthened at an endless length. Wonder Woman also has a tiara that possesses super qualities, and she can throw the tiara with a boomerang-like effect.

Together with Batman and Superman, Wonder Woman comprises DC Comic’s so called “Trinity” which is basically indicating they are the three most powerful and iconic characters in the DC Comic Universe.

Apart from being heroic & superhuman, Wonder Woman is incredibly beautiful. The objective behind these qualities appeared to be her makers attempt to suggest that women can easily posses every one of these attributes at the same time, thus to help liberate the women of that time from becoming chained in or pigeon-holed by males of their period.

Through the years, Wonder Woman has retained a significant level of popularity considering that she is a female in an otherwise man infested world, from both the arena of comic figures and the customers who buy them. If you have a child that loves playing with legos then they will love a lego party made with that theme. You can start planning your child’s next birthday party now. There are so many different themes that you can choose just about anything. You can combine your child’s love of legos with something else they love.

If your kid is into star wars you could always do a star wars theme party. You could have a spongebob or truck and car themes is a great idea. The cars and trucks actually work once you put them all together.

As far as party planning goes, the tableware issue always pops up, shall we use the disposable tableware or not? This issue appears particularly in planning baby showers wherein getting the green light from the future mom to use disposable baby shower tableware is crucial.

Games to Play at a Tea Party

There are lots of great games to play at a tea party, the best of which you are about to learn. The point of these games is to of course, have fun, but also to get people acquainted and comfortable.

Teacup Swap is a game for big or small groups. In your invitation, ask each guest to bring a teacup and saucer that they are willing to trade. Suggest a place that they might find one if they do not have one on hand (an antique store in the area is a good bet). Make sure that you have extra in case someone forgets, or cannot afford one.

When the guests arrive, have them sit at the tea table and place their cups and saucers in front of them.

When you are ready, have everyone walk around the table, admiring each teacup and saucer set. When everyone has finished, let them know that the first guest to arrive is the first to choose a teacup.

You can go in the order of the guests arrivals, by birthdays, or go in age order.

It is lots of fun if you keep the fact that they will be trading teacups a secret. Just make sure that those bringing their own know that they should make sure they bring a teacup that they don’t mind giving away.

Each guest will get a chance to pick their favorite, and no matter which teacup others choose, they will each end up with a lovely teacup and saucer to take home!

The second game you are about to learn is called Tea Tasting. This is a great game to play with smaller groups. Make sure that you have several teapots handy, and a little trinket to give away for a prize.

Find a few different teas and prepare each in a separate teapot.

Let your guests taste a small bit of each tea, one at a time, without letting them know which is which.

When everyone has tasted and guessed each flavor, give the best guesser a small prize.

Just remember to write down which tea is in each pot in case you forget!

Buy teas that have very different flavors for this game. The game won’t be much fun if every tea tastes the same.

In general, avoid buying mixed teas because the flavors can get confusing.

When each hat is complete, award a prize to the most creative hat, the prettiest hat, the smallest hat, etc. Make sure you take lots of pictures!

Oktoberfest is the worlds largest fair taking place every year in Bavaria. You can also throw your own Oktoberfest party using the following Oktoberfest party ideas:

1. Get some cardboard to make your invitations. Cut out shapes of lederhosen, beer goggles, beer glasses, beer kegs, beer steins and bratwurst. Remember to say on your invites that they will be charged an admittance fee if they fail to dress up!

2. The guys costumes are truly hideous yet hilarious. Traditional Bavarian lederhosen will cut off the circulation where you don’t want it cut off! These knee length leather shorts are held up by braces. You will also need socks pulled up to your knees and a hat with feather. How silly!

3. Ladies, you get to wear traditional Bavarian or Alpine peasant girl costume. This includes a lacy blouse and tight bodice. You can also dye your hair blonde and tie it up in cute pig tails.

4. The Bavarian flag is of blue and white, so get plenty of decorations including balloons in these colors.

5. To make your venue look like a traditional brau haus bier keller, you need long wooden tables and benches. If necessary fix them together, but they should be in a long line!

6. Cut out bratwursts, lederhosen, beer glasses and beer kegs from cardboard and hang them from the ceiling. If you’re ambitious, you can also hang gingerbread men up too.

7. They may not be attractive but get some German flags for the walls. Also get plenty of miniature ones for the table decorations.

8. Consider hiring out a brass band to play traditional beer hall music. This of course is budget dependant!

9. Some traditional German food you should serve would be; sausage stuffed mushrooms, garlic bread, weiner schnitzel, bratwurst, nuremburger, sauerkraut, gingerbread, apple strudel and black forest cake.

10. Of course, the most important element of any Oktoberfest party is the beer. Make sure you stock up with plenty! Make sure it is German beer! There will be people wanting to try many different sorts of beer so get in a variety.
