Freestyle Rap Battle Tips

Freestyle rap fight advice is hard to get by. As a ten year veteran battle rapper who gains about 80% of my battles, I determined to share about usable tips that have helped me live the combat rap circuit.

Focus on specifics. Generally, the more specific your punchlines are, the harder they hit. Try and chooes things about your opponent that aren’t immediately obvious. For example, I once battled a guy with an Oakland A’s baseball cap. Rather than talk trash about the A’s- which wouldn’t be a good idea in Oakland- I began to list off nasty words about him that start with the letter A, such as “arrogant, asinine, and atrocious” not to mention a few others that don’;t belong in print. This brings me to my next point…

Acquire the crowd. Most freestyle rap battle tournaments are resettled on interview vote. Even those that are determined by judges are still heavily influenced by the crowd. The lesson from this? You aren’t there to beat a rapper; you’re there to acquire the crowd. To do this, avoid pronouncing silly things aimed at the audience. If I had bagged on the A’s the crowd would have turned on me, which is why I kept it special without losing the crowd in my freestyle.

Be prepared. Anyone who’s battled for a while knows the importance of scoping out the competitor. If I’m in a room full of MC’s, think me, I see every combat and effort to get up with punchlines about each MC. Apparently, I spend more time concentrating on the best ones, as there’s a greater opportunity I’ll battle them at some point! Having merely a a few minutes ahead getting up on stage can help you come up with a few one liners that just may acquire the rap battle for you.

Display no mercy… most of the time. There is a very thin line in a freestyle rap fight between entertaining and abusive. Generally, you can be as ruthless as you want supplied it’s interesting. I’ve seen rappers get huge applause from a crowd not because the punchline was that great, but because they said it like they meant it! Conversely, a deadly punchline is worthless if you’re covering the mic with your hand. Focus on delivery.

Flow. Don’t confuse flow with delivery, which is the more technical side. Whereas delivery is about articulating your words, flow is how you put words together. In General, in freestyle battles, the most deadly form of flow is the use of multiple internal rhymes that consist of a set up and a punchline. Nevertheless, some rappers fall into the habit of applying the same bored format, and can be beaten by somebody on style points.

The key thing to realize is that freestyle battles are seldom won on one aspect alone. it’s usually a combination of the three that leads to victory, which is why you need to work on your lyrics, your delivery and your flow to stay at the top of your game. American idol is the biggest sorry show out there they are wasting all the tax payers money on BS that they could use that money and help people that don’t have anything. They done a poll that the people that cant afford anything donate more money than the rich people that spends all there money on party and drugs and then when they get arrested they get a slap on the wrist and if someone wasn’t famous and had the same charge they would get 10 years so everyone should boycott the American idol and get them off the air don’t support that gay show. American idol is going to be a tough week. Someone is going home and after all this time competing it is tough to leave regardless if it is time or not. This week Tim urban could become the giant killer. It seems Tim survives in spite of all odds.

I love all the thrill and the disappointment of it all. But sometimes Simon goes to far with the insults. He is just a rich guy with a very bad opinion on everything. Everything else about American idol i love. American idol is going steadily down and doesn’t want to be associated with a failing show. Hence, he wants to get out of the contract and refocus his attention on a new show. Is this the beginning of the end of American idol?. American idol is based on what America wants.
